TITLE: THE FICTIONAL SELF What do we really know about ourselves? Do you believe that the self is a natural metaphysical representation of who you really are? Do you really believe that there is such a thing as self-discovery? Why do we use the word discovery? Is it because our "self" is a hidden part of us that needs to be realized? Is it there all along? I believe it isn’t so.. why did I call it a fiction? I believe that who we are is a text written and rewritten from moment to moment according to the demands of the society. Who we are is who we choose to be. Am I making any sense? I don’t accept reasons such as "YOU HAVE TO ACCEPT ME FOR WHO I AM BECAUSE THIS IS ME!" No.. there is no such as thing as a natural you! All of the descriptions of ourselves are scripts we have to act out. Ourselves is just a product of what the society dictates to us. We are creations of the cultures by which we choose to live. How can I say that? Consider this… you can write an autobiography of yourself today and describe everything about you.. however… after one or more years, you’ll write an autobiography of you again with a completely different description of you… why? Because you realized that you don’t like your former self that’s why you created and wrote another one according to your liking at the moment. Note: sorry folks, this essay isn’t polished and it isn’t even complete yet! Hope you’ll forgive some errors.. ^^ as for the contents.. blame it on me being a Nietzschean! XD
